Sitios curiosos y coloridos alrededor del mundo

A Fantastik world of colors

A few months ago we started a series of posts on Instagram with the idea of compiling places that sum up the philosophy of our shop. That is, places around the world that are very authentic, original and of course that radiate colour from all angles. We even created a specific hashtag: #unmundofantastikdecolores (in Spanish).

You can see all those places in our profile, but we will also show them here on the blog. Today we start with the first three:

Street artist Shik Shik in Somalia

Mural artist Muawiye Hussein Sidow, also known as “Shik Shik”, has hand-painted more than 100 shop fronts in Mogadishu, Somalia. They have a characteristic simplicity, similar to a naïf style, using bright colours and bold lines.

Each piece Muawiye paints is unique, often depicting what customers might find inside the shops. Illustrations include gaping mouths with extracted teeth, assorted electronic gadgets, colourful hookah pipes and even Andrés Iniesta is depicted on a video game shop wall.

His designs are splashed across the facades of barber shops, cafes and supermarkets, among other businesses. The artist is inspired by everyday life in Somalia and hopes that his work can bring more colour to the urban landscape.

Traditional painted houses in Poland

The colorful painted houses in a Polish village

In the south of Poland lies a small village called Zalipie. Its inhabitants have been determined to keep alive an ancient custom of painting their houses with typical Slavic motifs, flowers and vibrant colours.

This charming tradition began more than a century ago, when the local women started painting their houses to cover up some particular defects. They made their own brushes and paints using natural dyes and animal fats.

Over time, the habit was passed down from one generation to the next. In addition, the women found inspiration in nature and local folklore, so their paintings became bigger and more colourful. And not only the exterior is painted, the houses are also decorated on the inside. All of their rooms are covered with flowers and illustrations, as we can see in the pictures.

Zalipie can be seen as a big landscape painting, full of colour, life and history. The whole village is painted – it’s amazing!

The multicoloured kindergarten building in China

The multicoloured kindergarten building in China

If Fantastik were a school, that’s exactly how we’d like it to be! A place with a lot of colour and a lot of light, no matter where you look. The entire three-storey building is a real school for children, located in the city of Tianshui in China, and the project is by Sako Architects.

With a minimalist architectural style, the building has hundreds of polychromatic glass plates embedded in a solid white structure. This makes the interiors transform beautifully as light and shadow alternate throughout the day, creating a kaleidoscope of light and colour.

According to the architects, the aim of the building is to inspire the infinite creativity of children as they learn and grow into more confident adults.
