One of the coolest dates for us in the shop is coming up, the Day of the Dead. You already know we are big fans of Mexican culture, right? If only in Europe we celebrated this religious festivity as joyfully as they do in Mexico… Although the occasion symbolizes loss, it is also imbued with a festive spirit that is reflected in the country’s rich folklore and craftsmanship.
As usual, we are doing our bit by preparing an altar and decorating the shop to the max. But this year we have some surprises.

Our “altar de muertos”
This year, we dedicate our altar to Francisco Ibáñez, the Spanish author of the famous comic characters Mortadelo and Filemón. His passing in July, at the age of 87, saddened many fans, including us. Our altar pays tribute to this great cartoonist, the most influential figure in Spanish comics.
Along with the ex-votos, papel picado, and niches from the shop, don’t forget to add the typical marigold flower (cempasúchil) to your altar. You can buy them at Flores Navarro in Barcelona. For traditional pan de muertos, get in touch with Amaranto Bakery BCN.
Calaca painting workshops with Corazón Loco
We have worked with artist Corazón Loco for over 10 years. Her hand-painted and decorated skulls captivated us from the start. So, we were thrilled at the opportunity to host a skull painting workshop in our shop. The sessions last about three hours and are suitable for all ages. Materials are provided.
She will guide and help you in the decoration of your own calaca. In the end, you’ll take home a personalised piece for your Day of the Dead altar. Contact her via Instagram for more details. But be quick, space is limited!
Collaboration with El Dios de los Tres

This one has been in the pipeline for a while. After so many “we have to do something together”, “I love your work” and “when can we collaborate”, we finally did it! We invited Javi, the artist under the name El Dios de los Tres to design us a postcard for the Day of the Dead.

He was inspired by the theme and combined skulls, papel picado, Mexican ex-votos, and other bits to create this fantastic postcard. When you visit the store, buy, keep, or frame it; it will look amazing at home.
And stay tuned since this is the first of a few ventures we are working on along with him. We will disclose more details soon.
A fantastic prize draw
To round off all the surprises for the Day of the Dead, we have a fantastic prize draw! If you don’t follow us yet, keep an eye on our Instagram page, as we will soon be publishing a picture that will be used to draw a pack of calavareras and papel picado for the Day of the Dead. Good luck to everyone!
