Coyote wooden mask

Wooden mask making is one of the best known Guatelmatecan crafts. During the Mayan period, masks played a vital role in daily life and were used in religious rituals, civil ceremonies and even in wars against rival tribes.

Today they are part of their cultural heritage and are widely used in traditional dances and festivities. This coyote mask is made out of pine wood and hand painted in bright colours.
