This wooden figure represents Panchamukhi Ganesha, which in Sanskrit means five faces. This representation is very popular in southern India and especially auspicious if placed towards the north.
Ganesha is one of the most beloved deities in the Hindu pantheon of gods and, in fact, is the most recognized outside of India. Hindus consider the elephant god to be the “remover of all obstacles” so they pray to him before any new ritual or challenge. Devotees also believe that if Ganesha is worshiped, it grants success, prosperity and protection against adversity.
Figure made of eucalyptus wood hand painted by expert craftsmen in the Indian city of Varanasi.
