Recycled wood from Indonesian boats
In the Indonesian island of Java, teak wood has been a traditional material for building fishing boats due to its high quality and strength. The islanders would apply several coats of paint to increase the boats lifespan, while creating multi-coloured vessels. Once no longer used, the boats were recycled as construction timber. Today, this material has been given a new life by creating this original wooden craft letter.
The wood is reclaimed while maintaining its integrity. So each letter is unique, both in colour and texture. Depending on the pieces, knots, small holes and even the wooden nails used to fix the boards can be seen.
