The toran or bandhanwar is a traditional decorative element in India where it is generally used to decorate windows and the front door of the house. The word toran derives from the word torana, which in Sanskrit means to pass. In ancient times, torans were hung at the main entrance of houses and temples to attract and appease the divine energies, especially those of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.

This model with small shells is typical of the Rajasthan area and is considered especially auspicious for its red and saffron motifs, as these colors are associated with purity, strength and fire.
